Tasty Egg Drink Recipes:

24 Eggs
1/2 gallon Whoy
8 cups Rum
4 cups Sugarle Milk

4 cups Cream
4 cups Brand
Freshly Grated Nutmeg

As you can see, the White House was a demure place compared to the great state of Kentucky. This recipe was meant as light refreshment for 20 people before the serious drinking began.

Once more, separate your egg yolks from your whites. Beat the egg yolks (or dump them into a blender) until they’re a thick yellow mass, then add in the sugar. Continue beating or blending until you have a dubiously thick yellow mass. Dump the sugary egg blend into your punchbowl and add in the milk, cream, brandy and rum. Feel your arteries harden as you blend it all into a single creamy concoction.

Next, throw your egg whites into a bowl and abuse them with a hand mixer until they magically transform from a sticky liquid into stiff white peaks. Float the beaten egg whites on top of the egg nog. Serve cool, but not iced, with a generous sprinkle of fresh nutmeg on top. If you suspect two glasses of this egg nog will leave you with such little manual dexterity you’re more likely to grate your own fingers than the nutmeg, go ahead and generously dust the top of the punch with nutmeg before adding the egg whites.

Nothing says class like a good room temperature curdle. The Victorians were delighted by drinks you could chew. An authentic re-creation of this drink would involve throwing all the room temperature ingredients into a bowl, beating the mix to the best of your ability, letting it sit half a day, then serving it to a party of four. The longer you take to sip, the more curdles in your glass. The 19th century was an era of limited entertainment.

With a little modification, it’s easy to turn this into a nicely alcoholic version of an Orange Julius. Try substituting whole fat coconut milk for the cream and period almond milk (see the chapter on Milk Drinks) for the whole milk. Dump your milk substitutes and all the other ingredients into a blender and let the magic of electricity create a single smooth substance. Pour the result into ice filled lowball glasses. Marvel that this is actually a great flavor combination. You’re welcome.

This drink was presented as a medicinal beverage for soothing sore stomachs. Apparently, nothing says comfort like a salty, bitter raw egg. Beat the egg as though you’re going to scramble it. Just when you’re really in the mood for breakfast, add the salt and bitters. It still looks good, right? Ruin that by adding the sugar. Keep whisking until you realize you’re supposed to drink this. Add in the brandy and milk to try diluting the salty egg bitters. It won’t work, but you’ll feel better for trying. Drink the entire concoction as quickly as possible, then try to keep it all down with a brandy chaser. It may not cure your stomach ache, but it should make you sleepy enough to settle back into bed.
