Makeup Christie Brinkley. Secrets of Eternal Beauty. Part 7
Earlier we wrote about the secrets of beautiful skin, so in this part we will talk about makeup magic. Christie Brinkley is ready to give you all of her knowledge, experience and own preferences. Enjoy!
Everyday makeup for the active woman
Today’s women are leading such busy, active lives that they need makeup that lasts through their very long to-do lists. I like to think of everyday makeup as your basic face—only better. It’s about using the right products and techniques to define your features and cover any flaws, all with an almost imperceptible touch. Here are my step-by-step tips for putting on this basic face:
Start with my Christie Brinkley Authentic Skincare CLOSE UP Instant Wrinkle Reducer & Treatment. I also like Chanel Le Blanc de Chanel Multi-Use Illuminating Base. Use Christie Brinkley Authentic Skincare REFOCUS Eye + IR Defense under the eyes to protect and smooth that delicate skin. Apply Christie Brinkley Authentic Skincare RECAPTURE 360 + IR Defense Anti-Aging Day Cream generously to your face and neck.
Christie Brinkley – If I’m going to be at the beach or pool, I opt for a waterproof concealer, like Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Enhancer (in shade SX07). Apply it to the corner of the eye using a concealer brush, then blend (don’t use your finger, because it will deposit too much and emphasize any fine lines). You can also smear some on the eyelid, stopping at the eye hollow crease. Set it with a fine dusting of powder to prevent the concealer from creasing in the folds of the eyelid.
Christie Brinkley – Dot on, then blend in 3LAB Perfect BB Cream SPF 40. This is a great way to add another layer of sun protection for a day outdoors—plus, it helps cover up hyperpigmented spots and even out skin tone. I use my fingers to blend and just go very lightly over any areas where I’ve applied concealer so that I don’t rub that coverage off. Depending on your skin, you might not even need foundation over it.
A smile & sunblock are the two best things you can put on your face
Christie Brinkley – if you want a a bit more coverage (that still lets your skin shine through), try Giorgio Armani Maestro Octinoxate Sunscreen Fusion Makeup, Broad Spectrum SPF 15 (I use colors 6 and 7) and apply it using a Kevyn Aucoin Foundation Brush. The foundation is very sheer and liquid, so it’s nearly undetectable in the light of day. I like to use the darker shade to carve out cheekbones and tie in my forehead. For the rest of my face I match my skin tone as closely as possible.
Define your brows with Make Up For Ever Aqua Brow (I use color #10) using the Make Up For Ever Angled Eyebrow Brush no. 270. It will stay on all day (even if you go swimming!) so your face looks polished and defined—never washed out.
I like to contour my face to add depth. Laura Mercier Illuminating Powder in Mocha Spice Quad, applied with a Kevyn Aucoin Super Soft Buff Powder Brush, does the job perfectly.
By Terry Hyaluronic Blush in #3 Bubble Glow adds great, natural-looking color. Use the tiniest amount and blend it in immediately. You can use it for lips too—just add a dab to the center of your pout and use lip balm to smooth it out quickly.

I like Clarins Moisture Replenishing Lip Balm for colorless moisture. Curl your lashes with Kevyn Aucoin’s The Eyelash Curler. Never pull on your lashes, just get the curler down as close to your eyelid as you can without pinching or pulling and close it around your lashes. Do three little pumps, then release for the perfect curl.
Define eyes with Make Up For Ever Aqua Matic Waterproof Glide-on Eye Shadow (I use color S-60). I love this waterproof chubby pencil—use it in a back-and-forth motion along the base of the lashes until you have a defined line. (If you want to use a non-waterproof pencil, try Lancôme Le Crayon Khôl in Black Ebony.) I grab the skin at the outer corner of my eye and pull it toward my temple so that I’m stretching the skin flat and have a firmer edge to draw on.
Add a coat of Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara. I like the wand because it goes from bushy on one end to tapered on the other so you can really get to the lashes in the inner corner.
A swipe of Freedom System Eye Shadow in Orange across the eyelids using a big fluffy brush will really emphasize blue eyes, and it’s a warm, natural look for brown eyes too.
Stepping it up to an office-worthy face
Christie Brinkley – When you have a big meeting at work or an important interview, you might want a little extra polish (beyond the “basic” face you’ve just learned). Here’s what I’d do differently:
Opt for a matte, long-lasting foundation (such as NARS Sheer Matte Foundation or Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation). Under harsh office lights, you’ll want this extra coverage to make skin look flawless and polished. I often use two shades—the lighter one goes over my undereye concealer, then blends into the area above the cheekbone. I also put the lighter shade along the sides of my nose (along the marionette lines) and down along the jowls to brighten and lift a little. Then I’ll use the darker shade under the cheeks and along the jaw to add contour and depth.

Christie Brinkley – For the eyes, do the same pencil liner, but extend it beyond the outer corner just a hint. Then take a tapered hard brush and use it to apply a warm, chocolate-brown powder to smudge along the lash line. You’re adding more, but it actually has a softening effect.
Neutral eye shadow works best for the office. I love the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette to add contour and shape to the eyes. The colors are foolproof! (I use it with a Sonia Kashuk for Target eye shadow brush.)
Use a lip pencil (I like the ones by Bobbi Brown) to line and fill in your lips. The waxiness of the pencil will give your lipstick or gloss something to adhere to so it lasts longer (and if it does wear off, you won’t be left with just a line around your lips!).
I love using my conch shells to hold my brushes, so I feel close to the sea every day!
Turn your daytime makeup into an evening look
Christie Brinkley – You don’t have to start over from scratch before heading out to dinner. Taking your makeup up a notch is as simple as adding a little more definition and color to your face. Look, you can do it in just a few steps!
Christie Brinkley- Redefine eyes for a more dramatic evening look using Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Eyeliner in color 25L. Don’t make one straight line; start at the inner corner of the eye with a thin line, then make it thicker at the outer corner of the eye. It’s very important that the eyeliner gets tweaked up a bit at the outer corner—this helps you look awake and lifts the eye, especially important after a long day!

Christie Brinkley – Adding some false lashes is a great way to give eyes even more oomph. I like Kiss i-Envy Short Black Individual Lashes applied with Kiss Strip Lash Adhesive in Black. Pick up the lashes with tweezers, dip in the adhesive, and apply directly to your lash line. And I LOVE their lash clumps for adding even more glamour!
Christie Brinkley- You want your lips to look glossy all evening long. Lancôme Lip Lover in color 356 is a beautiful red gloss that doesn’t feather and has great staying power. I also love NARS Lip Gloss in Sweet Dreams—it’s my go-to light pink shimmer. Apply the smallest amount you can get away with and it will stay forever—it’s a funny paradox, but somehow less grips the lips better than more.
