My Favourite Pet. How I Rescued a Kitten From Cold Captivity

This story is about how I was going to buy a kitten for $70, and in the end I received a favourite pet for nothing.
From my early childhood, I thought that I loved only dogs, I calmly treated cats, but dogs made me more enthusiastic. I persuaded my parents for a long time to let me buy a dog, and now, after a couple of years, I achieved my goal and bought a Miniature Schnauzer puppy.

More than 9 years have passed, she still lives with me, but I began to notice that she is not enough for me, that I want to buy a cat. Again, a long way to persuade mom, and so I got permission to buy a cat. For a long time I chose among hundreds of breeds, my choice was complicated by the fact that my mother is allergic to wool, which means that I need to choose from hypoallergenic breeds. In the end, I chose a kitten of the Neva Masquerade breed, agreed with its owner and had to go after him in a few days to another city. All the necessary things for my favourite pet such as a tray, food, toys and scratching posts have already been purchased. But I was not destined to become the owner of that kitten. On February 14, on the street -25, my dad called me and said that he was sick and asked me to bring medicine. I got on the bus with the first-aid kit and went to him. At the next stop, an elderly woman came into the bus with a huge blanket in her hands, and two little kittens looked out of it. The woman looked very sad, she sat down with me. Curiosity overcame me and I asked her where she was taking these kittens in such weather. She said that she was taking them to the market to look for owners there (in Ukraine, quite often there are people in the markets who for 1 dollar look for owners for such animals, but in fact they just take money and the animals are thrown on the street, in the summer they would have had a chance to survive, but in -25 in the winter they would be doomed to death) And that woman from the bus also understood this, but she could not do anything, she had nothing to feed these kittens. And then I decided to take the kittens from her and drove on to my dad.

I gave him the medicine, made the injections and then went home. I understood that I would not be able to keep both kittens for myself, so I decided to immediately introduce them to my dog and leave with someone who would have an adequate reaction for Dana (my dog). I let the kittens out in my room and immediately I realized with who will be my favourite pet.

One kitten climbed a sofa, hissed and tried to scratch Dana, and the second went to discover the territory and had no fear of the dog. I called this kitten Amour. I began to look for good owners for his brother. I did not succeed, since I only had 1 evening to search. So, the next day I bought a big pack of food for him, wrapped it in a blanket and carried it to the previous owner, asking her to let him live with her for at least a week so that I had a little more time. She took the kitten and said, that she would leave him for herself, because she realized that she could not live without him.

1.5 years have passed since that moment. And from my small and very thin kitten a very soft, kind and charismatic cat Amour grew up.

By the way, it turned out that his great-grandmother was an expensive Oriental cat. So my  favourite pet  turned out to be hypoallergenic for a quarter, and that was enough so that my mother would not have an allergy to his wool. That’s how I got such a free, but at the same time such an expensive cat.
